| Tips for
attending an Interior Design trade only exhibition or show. |
| 1 |
Your
badge will identify you clearly at Trade only show and can be
scanned by exhibitors to post you price lists and brochures
later. |
| 2 |
The
exhibitors are in the main suppliers, producers or wholesalers showcasing their new
ranges to retailers and buyers who may offer them sizeable
orders and contracts.
Know the difference between a
trade supplier, a wholesaler and a retailer is important. Be
careful to explain the type of buyer you are and size of order
you may be in a position to place.
|
| 3 |
If
interested in purchasing the products ask:
- The minimum first order
requirement (check delivery costs you will need to pay).
- The minimum carriage paid
order CPO. (Delivery free and inclusive). Often for larger orders
only.
- Check if CPO is large if
they do a delivery charge for smaller orders.
- Whether they are prepared to
deliver direct to your customers. Some will not and
are only organised to deliver large quantities by
articulated lorry. Be sure of access to small residential
streets.
|
| 4 |
Be
honest about your buying power. Some will not trade with
Designers and regard us as retail buyers not trade.
Some will be happy to trade with you on individual/one off
orders. Options for future business will be regarded favourably.
Trade
prices on first orders will vary according to supplier. |
| 5 |
Don't
expect to find them on the net. Some wholesalers will not have a
web site to display goods or products. They may have catalogues
which they may not make
available to small buyers (too expensive). They may specialise
in selling to buyers and retailers. |
| 6 |
Some
wholesalers will sell to you on one off basis from product
ranges that you see at the show or buy one off with the option
to create other orders. |
| 7 |
Photography
is sometimes not permitted. Some of
the product lines you will see are unique and new designs are
keenly guarded against copyright theft. They will not appear in
catalogues for this reason. See www.acid.uk.com
Anti copying in design for more details. |
| 8 |
Size of
the companies vary - there are always new companies exhibiting
at the NEC for the first time. Some are smaller family run
businesses. |
| 9 |
Look out
for signs giving details of minimum orders by container load or
pallet. |
| 10 |
You will
need 2 days to get around all the halls. Go
early, there is lots to see. Be prepared for a long walk
around the 15 halls of exhibitors! |
